Starting from absolute zero
If you're starting from zero, the first goal is to reach CLB 5. Based on our students' data, this takes an average of 60 lessons — we've seen students get there in 40, others in 70. The safest average is 60.
To go from zero to CLB 7, the average is 110 lessons. We've seen students do it in fewer than 100, but the safe line is 110.
The factor that most impacts this number is study quality. A student who can only study at the last hour of the day, exhausted after work, has a different learning curve. It's not a lack of ability — it's the cost of fatigue.
You already have a base in French
If you're at B1, the path is much shorter: the average is 40 lessons, about 3 to 5 months of preparation. We've seen students get there in 20 — but safety is at 40.
And there's a profile more common than it seems: the student who already has the French level but has never been in contact with the TCF Canada structure. In that case, the goal is to understand the format, absorb the strategies and train within the exam standard — about 20 lessons are usually enough.
